I saw a squrirrel in my backyard carry a dead bird up a tree and eat it? Is the squirrel rabid? is it normal?

completely normal..squirrels are actually nest predators..if it was a baby bird, it could have been snatched out of a nest. They are omnivores and are opportunistic eaters.I saw a squrirrel in my backyard carry a dead bird up a tree and eat it? Is the squirrel rabid? is it normal?
Whaaaaat the fuuuuck?! Lol Omg man, here's my advice to you! At exactly 3a.m., I want you to spy on him. Most squirrels are chillin` by midnight, so he'll be pretty far in. When you accomplish that, find him sleeping. Grab the zipper on his back, and unzip it. There you will see a sleeping cat. An illusion! These damn squirrels are getting pretty tricky these days. Squirrels are omnivores...and They'll eat anything from nuts to mice. Everyone thinks that they're nut chewers and nothing else, but People have found remains of mice, birds, and even other squirrels in Squirrel stomachs.

So...Survival of the fittest.

Only re-animated zombie squirrels eat the dead. BEWARE!! They will join forces and go straight for your brain!

j/k

No, squirrels are omnivores. It's unusual for them to eat carrion if there are other options. He must have been pretty hungry.
Squirrels are omnivores. Not exclusively herbivores, so this wouldn't be uncommon.

But rabid only means being ';infected with rabies';, so unless it was foaming at the mouth, it was not rabid either.
NO that is not normal, squirrels do not eat birds. They are herbivores. They dont even eat meat. You need to call animal control and explain what happened.
Ewe.

That's not normal.

It's probably rabid.

Squirrels are herbivores...

they don't eat meat.
Squirrels will not eat birds, even if they are rabid. I am sure it was either not a squirrel or not a bird.
im quit scared of squirrels now.

Maybe just a HUNGRY squirrel.
Doesn't sound to much out of the norm. Maybe find a wild animal group and ask them. But I wouldn't be too concerned.
no this is normal, natures way of clearing their dead
OMG thats sick...Ive never seen one do that before
Cool...you should have taped it and put it on youtube for us to see!
