My kitten was chasing a squirrel?

He's an indoor cat but i let him out to my garden and he saw a squirrel and started chasing it.. he went pretty far but i managed to bring him back by calling out his name. I'm worried that he might never come back home.

Why has he been doing this? Did he want to kill it or just play with it? and

can a squirrel hurt him or attack him with a group of squirrel's?

How can i prevent him from chasing the squirrel?

Thanks. My kitten was chasing a squirrel?
if you're worried he might run away, don't let him out unless your yard is fenced in and you're sure he can't climb the fence.

he probably wanted to kill it and eat it. that's what cats do. if he caught the squirrel, it probably wouldn't hurt him much. no, the squirrel won't bring back a group of squirrels to exact vengeance on the cat.

if you don't want him to chase squirrels, don't let him near squirrels. My kitten was chasing a squirrel?
CATS GO CRAZY WHEN THEY SEE LIVE CREATURES THEY ARE NOT FAMILIAR WITH - BE CAREFUL BECAUSE SOME OF THESE CREATURES CAN CARRY RABIES, LIKE SQUIRRELS AMONG OTHERS I BELIEVE - HE MAY HAVE WANTED TO PLAY WITH IT OR JUST EAT IT, CATS ARE WEIRD LIKE THAT - ALWAYS KEEP AN EYE OUT IN CASE HE DOES STRAY TOO FAR SO YOU CAN TRY TO CORRECT IT'S BEHAVIOR
Well I think you should train it. Call it's name, Pat your legs of something like that. Even calling out sounds is good. Or you can check to see if there is no other animals before you let your cat out to play.
You can't. It is a cat, not a dog. You cannot train a cat. It wants it for prey. It will kill and eat it, just like it would if it were a bunny.
my cat is an indoor cat and she loves to look out the window at squirrles and birds. your cat probably wasn't used to seeing a squirrel so it chased it to see what it was.
one time my cat ate a squirrel

and i didn't know there was such a thing as a squirrel Mafia

you probably come back when he or she gets hungry
